15th Annual Oyster Shuckin' On The Strand Oyster Roast.

2024 Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Grand Strand Young Professionals hosted their annual fundraiser for Horry County South Carolina kids at Christmas time, in their Substitutes for Santa Program.

The event took place in the Murrels Inlet area at a locally owned and operated business called the Hot Fish Club.  Where the roasters, grounds, employees, and equipment was donated to host the event.  The event is the Grand Strand Young Professionals biggest fundraiser of the year to support the Substitutes for Santa Program.  The money raised from this event is utilized by the Substitutes for Santa Program to provide gift cards for Horry County children that might not have other means of celebrating Christmas with gifts.

The event was a huge success and brought in over 300 people to consume over 80 bushels of the delectable ocean treat.  I had my first, second, third, and fourth oyster at this event.  I did not hate it, but I also don't think I will seek them out on my own as a craving.  Six roasters were in service for the entire four hour event.  Every 10-15 minutes or so the large containers of steamed oysters were dumped into serving trays for heavy lifting volunteers to rush the treats to hungry and waiting event sponsors and guests, I was one of those volunteers.

The event had various entry fees to include options for all you can eat oysters, two adult beverages, chicken bog, and all the condiments available, hot sauce, horseradish, crackers, lemons, and of course you could bring your own.  Or if you are not an oyster aficionado you could have just purchased a chicken bog ticket, with two adult beverages.  Other beverages were available as well for the non-adult beverage consumers.  Total numbers from the event were not readily available to me but it was certainly fun and was in my mind a success.

I was thanked for my time, while also being asked if I was ok, or not what you had bargained for when I signed up, ... The secret is this was the most fun I have had on a Saturday in the Inlet in a long time.  And while these events are a lot of work to set-up, run, plan, and execute the goal is to provide joy and benefits to youth at Christmas, and the Joy and Laughter from Saturday's event.  Held a lot of Christmas spirit within it on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Beautiful Horry County South Carolina.
